Overdraft Protection Information

Bounce Protection is Citizens Bank's overdraft protection plan provided to customers in good standing who have opted in, 60 days after an account is opened. This service permits Citizens Bank to authorize and pay overdrafts based on pre-established criteria for checks and other transactions made using your checking account, such as ACH transactions, automatic or electronic bill payments, ATM transactions and everyday debit card transactions. This service provides an added level of protection against unanticipated cash flow emergencies and account reconciliation errors.

There is no additional cost associated with this privilege. However, you should keep in mind that you will be charged our standard NSF fee of $28.00 for each item paid using Bounce Protection. Effective July 1, 2011 no fee will be charged on overdraft balances below $10.00 and there will be a limit of five (5) overdraft fees assessed per day per account. For more details click here to view our Bounce Protection brochure.

You may opt in or out of this service at any time by coming in to any of branches or by completing the Bounce Protection Options form and returning it to your branch.

Other overdraft protection options available to you include linking your Citizens checking account to your Citizens savings account or attaching your checking account to a line of credit, such as CreditCheque. (Enrollment in CreditCheque is subject to approval.) Depending on your individual needs these options may be less expensive than Bounce Protection.

Citizens Bank wants you to make an informed decision on the type of overdraft protection that best suits your banking needs. We encourage you to come in to any of our branches or call your branch manager with any questions you may have.

All funds in a “noninterest-bearing transaction account” are insured in full by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from December 31, 2010, through December 31, 2012. This temporary unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000 available to depositors under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.

The term “noninterest-bearing transaction account” includes a traditional checking account or demand deposit account on which the insured depository institution pays no interest. It also includes Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (“IOLTAs”). It does not include other accounts, such as traditional checking or demand deposit accounts that may earn interest, NOW accounts, and money-market deposit accounts.
